Montréal Achieves Highest Ever Score in GreenStep Destination Certification

GreenStep is pleased to recognize that Tourisme Montréal has just set a new benchmark, achieving Silver Certification from GreenStep, earning an impressive 74%—the highest score ever recorded in GreenStep’s sustainable tourism certification process for a destination, and just one point away from Gold. This remarkable achievement reaffirms Montréal’s leadership in responsible and sustainable tourism.

Tourisme Montréal is a 100-year-old private, non-profit organization that works to position Montréal as an international-calibre leisure and business travel destination. The organization pilots innovative hospitality strategies with a two-fold objective: ensure that visitors enjoy a memorable experience and maximize tourism economic spin-offs in a sustainable way with long-term impacts for the city. GreenStep Certification

GreenStep, a Canadian organization internationally recognized for its expertise in sustainable tourism, evaluates and ranks tourism offices and the destinations based on a rigorous set of criteria.

The destination was evaluated through a rigorous process that included GreenStep’s detailed questionnaire of 117 questions. The certification was achieved based on complex elements such as the initiatives of tourism stakeholders and their environmental, social, and economic impact, as well as the commitment of the City of Montréal, its residents, and its visitors.
