Tourisme Îles de la Madeleine is the official tourism organization for the Magdalen Islands, a Canadian archipelago in Quebec’s Gulf of St. Lawrence. The region is recognized for its dramatic coastal landscapes, sandy beaches, and vibrant local culture, attracting tens of thousands of visitors each summer. Tourism is the second largest industry on the islands, supporting a wide range of activities from outdoor adventures like kayaking, kitesurfing, and hiking, to culinary experiences and cultural events that highlight the area’s unique heritage and artisan community.
The islands’ approach to tourism governance traces back to a public consultation process carried out between 2004–2005, which established principles that have guided development ever since: that tourism should benefit the broader community, protect the natural environment, reflect local culture and island identity, and complement other parts of the local economy. Tourisme Îles de la Madeleine collaborates with local partners and residents to balance tourism growth with environmental preservation, making the islands a model for sustainable destination management.
